Little Explorers Dayhome

A warm, home-based early learning environment rooted in outdoor play, child-led learning, and respectful care

Little Explorers Dayhome is a home-based early learning program located in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. Rooted in forest school values and child-led learning, our program offers a warm, nurturing environment where young children can explore, play, and grow through meaningful, hands-on experiences - both indoors and outdoors.

Serving children ages 1.5–4 years
Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Program Overview

Little Explorers Dayhome is part of the Tideview Nature School family and is designed to provide young children with a calm, consistent, and relationship-centered early learning experience. As a small, home-based program, we focus on creating a secure and predictable environment where children feel safe to explore, take age-appropriate risks, and follow their natural curiosity.

Our program blends the comfort of a home setting with daily outdoor play and nature-based learning. Children spend time both inside and outside each day, engaging in play, exploration, and group experiences that support their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Little Explorers Dayhome is influenced by Forest School, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori approaches to early learning. We believe children are capable, curious, and full of potential, and that learning happens best through play, exploration, and real-life experiences.

At Little Explorers, we value:

  • Child-led, play-based learning

  • Daily outdoor play and connection with nature

  • Uninterrupted time for exploration and discovery

  • Respectful, responsive relationships

  • Learning through hands-on projects and real experiences

Our focus is on supporting the whole child. When children feel safe, confident, and emotionally supported, academic learning develops naturally through curiosity and engagement.

A DAY AT LITTLE EXPLORERS

Each day follows a gentle, flexible rhythm designed around the children’s needs, interests, and energy levels. While routines provide structure and security, the flow of the day may shift based on weather, group dynamics, and individual needs.

A typical day includes:

  • Arrival and outdoor play

  • Morning circle or group projects

  • Indoor play and exploration

  • Lunch and quiet reading time

  • Nap or quiet rest time

  • Afternoon indoor and outdoor play

  • Closing circle

Outdoor play is a meaningful part of our daily routine, and children are expected to participate in all aspects of the program, including time outside in various weather conditions.
